A database of sightseeing spots in the Tokachi region.

We have included many tourist locations that have been published in books and magazines, but in addition there are many lesser known but reputable spots included here. We encourage you to extend your sightseeing to these locations as well.

Obihiro Obihiro Zoo
Obihiro Zoo showcases elephants who are happy to greet you. The Zoo also has playground equipment and a Ferris Wheel from which you get a view of Obihiro from on high.
  Shikaoi Senjyokuzure
The rocky area you can see past the Ougibahara Viewing Platform. Lava flowing during volcanic activity hardens and crumbles, creating huge boulders that lie on top of each other. Rabbit-like pikas live in the alpine vegetation which surrounds the area.
  Makubetsu Ake no gaoka Park
Ake no gaoka Park was established overlooking Makubetsu Town, from whose streets an uninterrupted view of the Hidaka, Daisetsu and Akan mountain ranges can be seen.
Obihiro Obihiro Horse Race Track
Obihiro presents a unique type of horse racing called Banei horse racing. On August 6th, a special event called "Tokachi-Mura" is held in which tourists get a chance to interact with the race track staff and and to sample the famous Tokachi products available.
  Shintoku Tomuraushi Onsen
A secret hot spring surrounded by Taisetsuzan National Park's primeval forest.
  Makubetsu Nitta Forest Commemorative Hall
Built of camphorwood, the hall is located in Nitta Forest. With a plywood factory and mountain forestry industry, the contributions of the Nitta Group in shouldering the burden of development in Tokachi are on display.
Obihiro Manabe Garden
One of Hokkaido's notable gardens.
  Shintoku Karikachi Highland Eco Trolley
Enjoy the feel of the mountain breeze as you pedal the trolley car.
  Makubetsu Maruyama Viewing Platform
An uninterrupted view from the Hidaka mountains to the Pacific Ocean, including the streets of Chuurui town, can be seen from here.A legend tells great pirate's treasure.
Obihiro Shichiku Garden
Another of Hokkaido's notable gardens.
  Shintoku Kuttari Onsen
The best way to connect with Mother Nature is in an outdoor hot spring.
  Makubetsu Tokachi Hills
One of Hokkaido's representative gardens along Hokkaido's "garden highway" that ties together the best views of Asahikawa, Furano, and Tokachi's flower gardens. Plants, insects and wild birds exist in symbiosis in this experimental eco garden which is also blessed with views from slightly elevated hills.
Obihiro Aikoku Station
"From the country of love to happiness and fortune" is the catchphrase of these two station tourist areas. Aikoku station is one of the retired stations on the old Hiroo railway line.
  Shintoku Osoushi Onsen
The strong appeal of this famous sulphur hot spring lies in the smooth feel of its highly alkaline water.
  Ikeda Ikeda Wine Castle
Situated in the hills above Ikeda town, Ikeda Wine Castle is symbolic of the town. With underground cellars, display rooms, wine-tasting corner, and shopping area, Ikeda Wine Castle's wine is the town's principal product and market.
Obihiro Koufuku Station
Aikoku Station is recognised as the holy land for lovers. Happy events of all kinds can be enjoyed here.
  Shimizu Nissho mountain pass viewing platform
The magnificent Tokachi plains can be seen stretching out before your eyes.
  Toyokoro Toyokoro Direct Produce Area
Toyokoro town's harvested agricultural produce and the catch unloaded at Ootsu port are sold and purchased here. Popular meals and snacks made from local produce are sold at food and drink stalls.
Obihiro Obihiro Yachiyo Farm
Located at the foot of the Hidaka mountains' Tokachi-poroshiri-dake, this communal farm is rich in natural beauty. With a restaurant and park golf course, annual festival, mountain vegetable picking and pleasant walks, it can be enjoyed throughout the four seasons.
  Shimizu Tokachi Millenium Forest
In the deep forest, untouched nature, beautiful gardens, modern art, contact with animals, and restaurant dining can all be enjoyed.
  Toyokoro Mt Moiwa Nature Park
Mt Moiwa overlooks the splendid Tokachi landscape and the Tokachi River that winds across it. Cherry trees and azaleas adorn the park, which also boasts a campsite and park golf course.
Obihiro Iwanai Senkyou
A place where you can experience nature's splendor to the fullest. In the fall Iwanai Senkyou hosts a festival for the brilliant changing of the leaves. The area is also home to facilities where you can experience various activities.
  Memuro Shinarashiyama
From the viewing platform established at an altitude of 340m, an uninterrupted view of the Tokachi plains can be seen.
  Toyokoro Choubushi Lake camping site
A campground has been established on the shore of Lake Choubushi, a dry, salty lakebed. Surrounding it, a primeval flower garden is growing in which the splendour of Hokkaido's nature can be enjoyed.
Otofuke White-birch road
This famous sightseeing area stretches a distance of 1.3 kilometers.
  Memuro Iris Gardens
Boasting 25000 blossoms of 610 different varieties that reach the fullness of bloom in early summer, this is Hokkaido's largest iris garden.
  Honbetsu Yoshitsune no Sato Honbetsu Park
The park grounds span 25.8 hectares. Within the park, information relating to the legend of Yoshitsune is on display. Play equipment is available for the children.
Otofuke Tokachigaoka Viewing Platform
An unparelleled view of the vast Tokachi plains and the Hidaka mountain range can be seen from here.
  Memuro 10 line windbreak
65m wide and reaching 9km in length, it is Japan's longest and biggest windbreak.
  Honbetsu Beans
Daytime heat and night-time cool during Honbetsu's long hours of daylight from the time of growing to the time of harvesting of beans produces the optimal amount of sugar in each bean, resulting in beans whose sweetness and flavour are of the finest quality.
Otofuke Ryuugetsu Sweet Pea Garden
A palace full of cakes and sweets built right next to the factory where they are made.
  Memuro Memuro Park
400 year old Japanese emperor oaks cast long shadows over the 20hectare park.
  Ashoro Ashoro Fossil Museum
Shihoro Shihoro Nupuka Highlands
A superb view of the Tokachi plains and Hidaka mountain range can be seen from this 600m elevation.
  Memuro Gateball Museum
A large number of precious documents relating to the invention of gateball can be viewed in the reference room.
  Rikubetsu Rikubetsu Railroad
Shihoro Pier 21 Shihoro
Try the specialty 'Kensaki Steak', made from famous Shihoro beef. Handmade pudding and ice-cream are also sold here.
  Memuro Main building of Matsuhisa
A dignified farmer's residence with magnificent white walls, this structure holds a special historical/cultural significance for Tokachi's agricultural past.
  Rikubetsu Milky Way Forest Viewing Platform
Shihoro Ryokufu Plaza Onsen
The vegetation-enriched water in this onsen is said to be particularly beneficial for the skin. There is also a free-flowing foot-bath available.
  Nakasatsunai Nakasatsunai Art Gallery   Urahoro Urahoro Forest Park
120 hectares of natural beauty. With a camp site, park golf course, athletics field, and promenade, one day is not enough to enjoy all the possibilities here.
Kamishihoro Nukabira Shangri-La
Campsite, ski resort and natural hot springs, plus many sightseeing spots such as a museum devoted to the historical Shihoro railway line.
  Nakasatsunai Hanabatake Farm   Urahoro Urahoro Rushin Onsen
Renovated and re-opened in March 2011. This onsen's water has a high alkalinity (pH 9.8) that is said to be highly beneficial for beautiful skin.
Kamishihoro Lake Nukabira
Lake Nukabira is the result of Nukabira Dam. From early summer until autumn around the lake, camping, canoeing, cycling, mountain-climbing and peaceful walks through the forests are available. In winter, ice fishing can be enjoyed on the lake itself.
  Sarabetsu Donguri Park   Urakawa Suimei Bridge Park
Freely enjoy the spring welling up from beneath the Hidaka mountain range.
Kamishihoro Naitai Kougen Farm
At around 1700ha, this is Japan's biggest farm (ie equivalent in area to 358 Tokyo Domes!). Horses and cattle can be seen grazing here. There is a rest-house with panoramic viewing platform at the highest point of the farm.
  Taiki Kamui Kotan Park
The fields around forests and creeks. Good place for sports and camping.
  Urakawa Oromappu Viewing Platform
An uninterrupted pastoral landscape can be seen from this platform.
Shikaoi Ougibahara Viewing Platform
On a clear day, an uninterrupted view of the majestic Tokachi plain stretching all the way from the Hidaka mountain range to the Pacific Ocean can be seen.
  Taiki Multipurpose Aviation Park
Experimental airships and other aircraft can be seen here (depending on the time of year and the weather).
  Urakawa Hidaka Comprehensive Training Institute
There is a 1000-meter-long indoor horse-riding track here.
Shikaoi Kanda Nisshou Commemorative Art Gallery
A representative of Western-style artists in Hokkaido, approximately half of Mr Kanda's masterpieces are on display in this gallery. Vivid to the point of being real, his works have enduring value.
  HIroo Hiroo Santaland
At the most prominent point of Oomaruyama Forest Park, flowers can be enjoyed from spring through autumn, and Night Illumination from late October through to the end of December.
  Urakawa Aeru Fine Horse Village
Horse riding available at this hotel.
Shikaoi Fukuhara Art Collection Commemorative Hall
Approximately 150 works of fine art are on display.
  HIroo Funbe Falls
An unusual waterfall dropping directly down from the side of the road. Refreshingly cool in the mid-summer heat, it becomes an ice pillar carved by Mother Nature in the winter.
  Urakawa Kosazuke Jizo
It's said that when you brush the head of Kosazuke Jizo three times, prayers for the conception of a baby will be answered. Many people come here from all over the country to pray to the Jizo.
Shintoku Sahoro Resort
Located in the foothills of the Daisetsuzan mountain system, Mother Nature can be fully appreciated here. Amidst the hotel, restaurants, golf course and other facilities, many wonderful activities can be enjoyed.
  Shintoku Bear Mountain
Located inside Sahoro Resort. While strolling along the promenade which spans the vast premises, you can view the Hokkaido bear's way of life in comfort and safety.
